Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use studentdiscountguide.org. Short version: you do not need an account, we set no cookies of our own, and we collect as little as possible.

What we collect and why

Server logs. Our hosting provider records technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and working. These logs are kept for a short time under the host’s own rules.
Votes and problem reports. When you click “Did this work?” or send a report, we store the page, your answer and any text you type. To stop spam we use a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address for one hour; we do not store your IP address in readable form.
Offers you share with us. When you use the “Share a student offer” form, we store the link, brand, country, category and description you send, and the date. Your email is stored only if you type it in and tick the box, and only so we can reply. We use the submission to check the offer; nothing you send is published automatically. Spam is deleted after 30 days, rejected tips after 30 days, accepted tips after 180 days. Your email is deleted at the latest 30 days after we have decided about your tip. To stop abuse we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address that changes every day, only to limit each visitor to 3 tips a day; we do not store your IP address in readable form.
Spam check on the form (Cloudflare Turnstile). The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from robots. To do this, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser details when you open the form. It sets no advertising cookies. Clicks on offer buttons. We count clicks per brand and country, with the time. No personal data is stored.
Your browser’s storage. Your light/dark choice, whether you already voted on a page, and lists you save in our tools are stored only in your own browser. They are never sent to us. You can clear them in your browser settings.

Ads and cookies

If ads are shown on this site, they come from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure ads. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland see a consent message first and can accept, refuse or change their choice at any time through the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. Analytics

If visitor statistics are switched on, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not track you across websites.

Shops you visit through our links

When you leave our site for a brand’s website, that website and any affiliate network may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

If you sign up for deal alerts, your email address is handled by our email service only to send you those alerts. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Legal bases

Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, we rely on our legitimate interest for security, spam protection, click counting and checking the offers you share, and on your consent for ad cookies, the newsletter and storing your email when you share an offer. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete data about you, object to its use, or ask for a copy. Write to hello@studentdiscountguide.org. To have a tip you shared deleted, write to the same address with the brand name and the day you sent it (and your email, if you gave one); we delete it within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

This site is meant for students and teachers. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, the new version is published on this page.
