No .edu Email? How to Still Get Student Discounts
A .edu address is the fastest way to verify, not the only one. Almost every brand and verification service accepts other proof.
Quick answer
If you have no school email, or it is not a .edu address, you can still verify with a document that shows your name, your school and the current term. Some services do not even ask for email: ID.me checks a national enrollment database first, and SheerID can use school records or your school’s sign-in.
Documents that are accepted most often
| Document | Accepted by (examples we checked) |
|---|---|
| Student ID with a current date | ID.me, GitHub, Adobe, Student Beans, Microsoft |
| Enrollment or registrar letter | ID.me, GitHub, Adobe, Prime Student (SheerID) |
| Class schedule for this or next term | ID.me, GitHub, Adobe, Microsoft |
| Transcript (official or unofficial) | ID.me, GitHub, Adobe, Prime Student (SheerID) |
| Acceptance letter or email | ID.me, Apple (newly accepted students), Microsoft |
| Form I-20 or F-1 visa | ID.me (US international students) |

Services that need no school email at all
- ID.me: checks a national enrollment database; ID.me says you do not need your school email.
- SheerID: used by Spotify, Hulu, Nike and ChatGPT; it can verify through school records, your school’s single sign-on, or a document.
- Amazon Prime for Young Adults: if you are 18–24, you can join on age alone, with no school proof. See Prime Student.
- Amtrak: the 15% student fare only needs a valid student ID when you travel. See Amtrak.
Where a school email is required
A few offers only work with a school email and no documents. Notion’s Education Plan accepts school emails only, and the address must be the main email on your Notion account. GitHub asks for your academic email if other students at your school verified with one, but accepts official proof that your school does not issue emails. Samsung’s instant route uses a .edu email; without one you verify through ID.me, Student Beans or UNiDAYS instead.
Community college, online and part-time students
Most programs are open to you. ID.me explicitly includes community, junior, vocational and technical colleges, Microsoft’s 50% Microsoft 365 offer covers full- and part-time students, and Adobe accepts qualified online programs. Check the eligibility line on each of our brand pages: we quote what each brand says about part-time and online study.
International students in the US
If your school gives you a student email, use it. If not, ID.me accepts Form I-20 and F-1 visas as proof. Many US offers require a US address or a US payment method, so a card from home may not work at checkout even after you verify.
The ISIC card
The International Student Identity Card is issued by a non-profit association in over 100 countries, as a physical card or a digital card in its app. In the US, ISIC lists its own discounts, for example 20% off FlixBus journeys and $5 off $50 at Target. It is useful when you travel or when a brand accepts ISIC as proof, but most US online student offers ask for their own verification instead.
Never borrow someone else’s school email or edit a document. Brands can cancel orders and accounts, and it can break the law. If you do not qualify, our guides show legal ways to pay less.
Students also ask
Can I get student discounts without a .edu email?
Yes. Most services accept a current student ID, enrollment letter, class schedule or transcript instead.
My college email ends in .com or a country domain. Does it work?
Often, yes. Services recognise school domains, not only .edu. If yours is not recognised, use a document.
I was just accepted and have no school email yet. What can I use?
Your acceptance letter or email. ID.me and Microsoft list it as proof, and Apple’s education pricing covers newly accepted students.
Are high school students able to verify without a school email?
On Student Beans you can use a card-style student ID if you are 16+. ID.me does not accept high school students.
