Budget gym chains sell student memberships, usually as a prepaid term that matches the academic year. The discount matters less than the length of the plan.

How to choose
- Match the term to your year. A 9-month plan covers most of the academic year; a 12-month plan only makes sense if you stay in the same city over summer.
- Check freezing. PureGym’s fixed student terms cannot be frozen; its monthly plans can be frozen for £6.99 a month. If you might go home for a long break, a shorter term may cost less overall.
- Check which gyms you can use. PureGym’s student plans are based on your home gym during term time.
- Compare with the campus gym. Many universities run their own gyms; compare the price before signing up.
Existing members
PureGym says existing members have to cancel and rejoin to get a student membership. Read the terms on the gym’s page before you cancel, so you do not lose a better rate.
