Music: the LA Phil

  • Student Insiders: free to join, with discounted concert tickets from $12 to $25.
  • Rush tickets: from $10 on the day of select concerts, for students and seniors 65+.
  • CODA: a free group for young music fans with discounted tickets and invitations to events.

Getting around: Metro U-Pass

Students at participating colleges can get a U-Pass for reduced fares on Metro Rail, Metro Rapid and local buses. The price depends on each college’s subsidy program; Metro says it matches the College/Vocational reduced fare or is cheaper. Participating schools have included UCLA, USC, Caltech, Occidental, Loyola Marymount, Cal State LA, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Pasadena City College and El Camino College. Ask your school’s transportation or parking office for the current price and how to sign up.

In LA, parking and rides often cost more than the ticket. Compare the U-Pass, a student ride or delivery membership and parking fees before choosing how to get somewhere.

Everyday savings

If you use rides or delivery more than twice a month, compare Uber One for Students and Student DashPass. For subscriptions, use the music comparison and the streaming hub.
