You rarely need to pay for proof
Most online student discounts use a free verification service chosen by the brand: Student Beans, UNiDAYS, ID.me or SheerID. Paid cards such as TOTUM+ or ISIC are useful for in-store discounts, travel abroad or proof of age, not for most online offers. Start with the free services and buy a card only if a discount you will use requires it.
